How Social Media Platforms are Changing to Benefit Businesses

Nowadays, businesses are using social media in order to get their product or service in front of the consumer. Whether it’s through a tweet, or simply creating a Facebook status on your company’s page, businesses are connecting to individuals on various platforms. It’s a good thing too because social media outlets are allowing you to optimize their platforms in variety of new ways.

Facebook, for example, has decided to “test a shopping feed that you can use through the app that is designed to help users discover new products and buy them seamlessly.” This shopping tool allows small businesses to advertise products online and have consumers buy it right on the spot. They don’t even have to go to the company’s website! Facebook is also allowing companies to pay to promote their ads on news feeds of prospects and customers. There is a small price for this, but it allows these potential customers to first be exposed to your company’s product or service by a simple ad.

Facebook isn’t the only social media platform that is evolving to benefit of businesses; SnapChat recently got praise for teaming up with Burberry for Fashion Week. The partnership allowed SnapChat users to see behind the scenes as well as “sneak peeks of the looks that will be on the runway.” This allowed customers who weren’t able to attend the show in London to get an inside look, without them having to travel to the event. It is a great way for Burberry to uniquely connect and reach their target audience across the world.

Facebook and SnapChat are just two of the many social media channels that have allowed marketers to advertise on its platform. New Research suggests, “a person 30 years ago saw up to 2,000 ad messages a day, compared with up to 5,000 or more exposures today.” As a consumer, you are no longer just browsing your social media sites, seeing what people from high school are saying. You are simultaneously being exposed to multiple advertisements and even the opportunity to buy a product. It is a great way for businesses and social media platforms to utilize their marketing opportunities, even though it sounds incredibly dangerous for my wallet!
